Hey there friend,
The Obama Foundation picked “pluralism” as the theme for its 2024 Democracy Forum, and I was humbled — and challenged! — to be invited to speak.
So many of my heroes in political bridging were there, too: Manu Meel of BridgeUSA, Eboo Patel of Interfaith America, Layla Zaidane of the Future Caucus, and more. If you don’t already follow their work, go check them out!
See above for a mid-gesture pic of the red/blue manicure I got on Election Day that managed to match my outfit. As for the scribbly pic below? It’s a peek at my talk-writing process.
A Braver Way podcast listeners — conservative, liberal, and everything else — sent in hundreds of profound questions about how we bridge the political divide post-election to inform our final episode of the season.
Since pluralism demands the courage to a) receive truly different perspectives, and b) welcome nuanced and challenging questions… I pored over these listener submissions for hours and found what struck me as a powerful politically balanced set of ten I shared in the talk.
So dang grateful to everyone out there who submitted them.
Next on my wishlist: An invitation to an event put on by a Republican president’s nonpartisan foundation.
I’m dead serious.
Got any leads? 🇺🇸

P.S. — If you are struggling post-election — and you are far from alone if you are — check out this replay of a super resource-heavy Braver Angels event. It’s called Managing Intense Emotions and Important Relationships After the Election, and it features family and citizen therapist Bill Doherty, whose work never fails to enlighten me. Want to dive deeper into the sensations of fear, hope, and tension following the election, and what you can learn from them? Here’s the replay of an event led by my friend and somatic therapist Luis Mojica, Processing the US Election with Somatics.
